In response to masculinity’s increasingly toxic reputation, men’s participation in worship, marriage, and public life has sharply declined. Where do men go from here? Is there a path beyond confusion and collapse? The way forward is not rejection, but renewal. If men are to flourish, they need a clear and compelling vision of the beauty of masculinity. This book offers that vision. Holding human nature in one hand and Christian revelation in the other, it presents a vivid portrait of holy masculinity. The journey begins with the crisis (chapter 1), then unfolds a threefold vision of manhood: masculinity in Eden (chapter 2), in sin (chapter 3), and in grace (chapter 4), with practical applications woven throughout. That redeemed vision is then applied to fatherhood (chapter 5) and to single and celibate men (chapter 6). The final chapter offers concrete principles for forming men fully alive. Authentic masculinity is not a toxic distortion to be rejected. It is a divine gift to be reclaimed.

About the Author

Dr. John Bishop is the Founder and Executive Director of Forge, an apostolate dedicated to strengthening families through the formation of men. Founded in Des Moines in 2023, Forge is now expanding into cities across the country. He holds a doctorate in theology from The Catholic University of America, where his dissertation explored masculine holiness, advancing the thought of Pope Saint John Paul II in dialogue with contemporary scientific research. With more than a decade of experience in men’s ministry—first on college campuses with FOCUS and now through Forge—Dr. Bishop works to equip men with a clear, compelling vision of redeemed masculinity for the renewal of the Church and society.
